The Ladies Team

There are a number of us who possess no sports background or paddling experience when we first join the team. But with the help, guidance and support from our seniors and our coach, we got the hang of it all and improve our paddling performance. Many of us come from the various club teams and school teams in Singapore.

The Vibrant team of 2000!

Our coach is Mr Ng Sin Teik and he is a versatile paddler able to paddle on either sides of a dragon boat. This gives him the skill to present demonstration to both the left and right side paddlers. He is a very good and caring coach who always buy us bananas and apples Our dear coach Mr Ng Sin Teik :>so that we won't go hungry after training. Because he looks upon every one of us in the team as his own children, many of us call him 'lao ba' (dear father). He is quite experienced in knowing the strength and weaknesses of each paddler so he could guide each one accordingly. He is also a very understanding man who is always open to suggestions and views for improvement from the ladies paddlers. His training is never boring and is planned to cater to the needs of the whole team. At times he would make us do circuit, running and sprinting, sometimes it would be visualization and aerobics work. He always try to make training fun but challenging so that we would not get so tensed up and stressed out during training.

Come meet the Captain of the team ! :>

Ladies Team Captain, Elise

My Captain, Elise

The Ladies team training is comprised of both water and land works. We also train with weights to build up our strength and power. Most of the time we train with free weights consisting of bar bells and dumb bells. One good thing is that one could learn a lot of new things, especially proper weights lifting techniques and methods. Now I'm not afraid to step into a gym to lift weights. Actually ladies can train up with weights as good as guys can. Here's an illustration of our training schedule :

Time What to bring Something to take note Training Program
Tues 6-8pm Training Attire Come 15 mins earlier to get changed and warm up jogging/running

circuit/rowing

Thursday 6-8pm Training Attire As above jogging/running

weights training

Saturday 4-6pm Training Attire As above jogging/running

rowing

Sunday 9-12pm Training Attire As above jogging/rowing

During off-peak seasons usually there will be no trainings on Sunday. The above training schedule is only a guideline, and should give you some ideas how the training is like and what do for our training. However, it is subjected to change due to certain circumstances as this is decided by our coach and we have to follow his instructions. For updated training schedule and training program, please visit SDBA web site for more information.

National Ladies Team 1997 - 1998

National Ladies Team of 1997 at Kallang, the site where we train

The National Ladies at Kallang Water Sports Centre 1997.

This is us in the 1997 Penang race racing in a full-sized dragonboat for 20-crew.

In preparation for the 1997 Jakarta Sea Games, we went for the Penang race. This is the Ladies team at the Penang race in 1997.

Ready For the race! During the 1997 Penang race, we bagged the Gold in both the 12-crew and 20-crew championship.

We also went for the September China Yan Huang Cup Championship few weeks just before Sea Games for our final warm ups. Hmmmm...isn't our orchid outfit attractive...hahaa :P

The Sea Games Team of 1997 at the Changi Airport before we set off for Indonesia.

The 1997 Sea Games Team. Each of us has to bring along our own paddle to Indonesia during that time, and some of us even made a nice 'clothing' for our paddle. Ahhh...who is that gal who made a pink clothing for her paddle har...? :P

The 10 men crew getting ready to paddle out to race

Preparing to race! This is the 12-men crew at the 1997 Jakarta Sea Games. But notice we have to use the full-sized dragonboat for the 12-crew races. For the Singapore Team we are sitting a gap apart on the boat. At the Jakarta Sea Games in 1997

This is the 20-men crew racing during one of the races. These are the ladies teams from other countries...notice the beautiful coordination as they row.

All of us in the team come from different background. Some of us are already in the working population, but there are also a number of us who are still students from educational institutions in Singapore. You have a chance to meet new people and new friends. :>

The Singapore Ladies Team in a full sized Dragon Boat at Jakarta Sea Games'97

During major Games and international races we often have to race in a full-sized Dragon boat. This is the Ladies Team in the Sea Games 1997.

So it you are willing to dedicate the time and effort do come join us and you can be sure you are in for an adventure of a lifetime!

The National Paddlers in China Two of my team-mates in China. Hey ... what's that? They had a rare companion with them, no wonder they were so happy!

When we go for Overseas races, we have a chance to visit places of interests. This is us during our races in China in 1997. Many of us bought lots of souvenirs from China to give to friends and family back in Singapore.

And now here's a brief outline of the team's humble achievement board from 1997 onwards. :) For the more updated info for this, you can contact SDBA.

Don't search any further.

Don't go into the tangled jungle

looking for the great awakened elephant

who is already resting quietly at home

in front of your own hearth

Nothing to do or undo.

nothing to force,

nothing to want,

and nothing missing -

Emaho! Marvelous!

Everything happens by itself
